MECHANICAL STORES CLERK
DEFINITION:
Under a Supervising Mechanical Stores Clerk or other supervisor,
assists in the work involved in receiving, recording, storing,
and shipping mechanical, automotive, and other parts, materials,
and supplies; does other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Unloads shipments and distributes electrical and maintenance
materials and supplies from trucks and freight cars.
Checks incoming shipments for conformity with orders and
specifications.
Checks delivery sheets when shipments are received to see that
specified goods are delivered and in good condition.
Records kinds and quantities of supplies and materials received.
Sizes and labels automotive and mechanical stock and sees that
stock bins are kept supplied according to size, color, and/or
other description.
Maintains stock in bins and on racks in an orderly and safe
condition.
Fills requisitions at the counter and checks supplies against the
requisitions.
Assists with the maintenance of a set of stock record cards and
helps take periodic inventories of stock on hand.
Assists in maintaining essential records and files.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by the
agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in the handling of parts and
supplies used in the maintenance of automobiles, trucks, and
other mechanical equipment.
LICENSE:
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid
in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than
employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties
of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of automotive parts, equipment, and supplies.
Knowledge of stock room organization, procedures, methods,
and records.
Knowledge of problems, procedures, and methods involved
in checking delivery sheets to see that specified goods are
delivered and that they are in good condition.
Ability to load and unload trucks and freight cars and to lift
and carry heavy and bulky burdens safely.
Ability to prepare accurate records of the kinds and quantities
of goods received, stored, and/or shipped.
Ability to sort and size automotive and mechanical equipment,
materials, and supplies.
Ability to prepare suitable labels.
Ability to assist in keeping bins and racks properly supplied at
all times.
Ability to help maintain the warehouse in a safe and orderly
condition.
Ability to work at the counter and to receive, check, and fill
requisitions for automotive and mechanical stock of varied
types.
Ability to help maintain a set of stock cards.
Ability to assist in the taking of periodic inventories.
Ability to maintain essential records and files.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the
agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate
in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered
as acceptable forms of communication.
