MANAGER MOTORS
DEFINITION:
Under direction, manages a large garage, motor vehicle repair
facility and maintenance program. Supervises one or more
subordinate supervisory staff involved in the maintenance, servicing
and repair of vehicles and/or equipment; does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Manages and oversees the maintenance and repair work on
automobiles, trucks, tractors, mowers or other vehicles and
motorized equipment or machinery.
Manages the work operations of the garage facility.
Plans and assigns work to garage supervisors and other staff.
Develops and implements operational and safety procedures
to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the garage facility.
Plans, organizes, assigns and supervises work of the organizational
unit and evaluates employee performance and conduct, and is responsible
for the hiring, firing, promotion, and disciplining of subordinates.
Ensures employees are properly trained and certifications remain current.
Prepares and reviews technical specifications for all vehicles prior to
purchase and may prepare bid proposals.
Reviews requisitions and/or purchase orders for parts, equipment,
materials, supplies, etc.
Determines whether to repair vehicles and/or equipment or contract
repairs to vendor.
Obtains quotes for repairs or purchase of new vehicles and/or equipment.
Reviews bids for new vehicles and equipment, parts and supplies and
repairs to be performed by a vendor for content and either accepts or
rejects bids.
Develops and implements a maintenance schedule for vehicle fleet,
which includes tracking maintenance costs and/or maintaining an
inventory database.
Determines and prepare retention schedule for vehicles and equipment
and may determine when it is no longer cost effective to repair vehicles
and/or equipment.
Prepares and maintains reports, records and files.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office
or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of supervisory experience in the installation, maintenance
and repair of varied types of motorized vehicles, equipment and/or machinery.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey
only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary
to perform essential duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of motorized equipment.
Knowledge of purchase specifications.
Knowledge of the methods used for reviewing bid proposals.
Ability to develop effective work methods.
Ability to prepare specifications and bid proposals for various types
of supplies, materials, equipment and services.
Ability to analyze garage operation and maintenance problems,
organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.
Ability to give suitable assignments and instructions to groups and
individuals.
Ability to make and execute plans for the effective utilization of available
funds and personnel.
Ability to supervise the obtaining, storing, safeguarding, distribution and
proper use of needed equipment, materials and supplies, and to keep
necessary records.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and
information systems used by the agency, office or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English
sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language
or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
