CLERK DRIVER

 

DEFINITION


 Under   supervision  of  a  supervisory  official  in   a   state
 department,  institution,  or agency, performs  routine  clerical
 duties  of  a varied nature, drives a light truck or other  motor
 vehicle,  and  delivers  and picks up  messages,  materials,  and
 supplies of varied types; does other related duties as required.

 NOTE: The  examples of work for this title are for illustrative
 purposes  only.  A particular position using this title  may  not
 perform all duties listed in this job specification.  Conversely,
 all duties performed on the job may not be listed.


EXAMPLES OF WORK:


 Does  varied types of routine work including operation of  varied
 types   of  office  machines  and  equipment;  looks  up   needed
 information;  takes  and  delivers messages;  unwraps  and  sorts
 incoming mail and packages.

 Labels  and  wraps  packages for mailing  or  delivery;  provides
 emergency courier service.

 Drives  a  light  truck  or other motor  vehicle;  picks  up  and
 delivers  messages,  mail, materials,  and  equipment  of  varied
 types;  loads  and unloads the vehicles; keeps delivery  records;
 picks up mail.

 Sees  that  motor vehicle is properly serviced and maintained  in
 good operating condition.

 Prepares simple factual delivery and other reports.

 Will  be  required to lean to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or  manual  recording and information  systems  used  by  the
 agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

      LICENSE:
 Appointees  must possess a driver's license valid in New  Jersey.
 Appointees  may  also be required to possess a  valid  Commercial
 Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the  class
 and type of vehicle being operated.
 NOTE: The responsibility for ensuring that employees possess  the
 required  motor vehicle license, commensurate with the class  and
 type   of  vehicles  they  operate,  rests  with  the  Appointing
 Authority.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge  of the facility in simple clerical and office  routine
 and methods after a period of training.

 Knowledge  of  problems  and procedures  of  loading,  unloading,
 driving,  and  servicing a light truck or  other  motor  vehicles
 after a period of training.

 Knowledge  of New Jersey traffic regulations and of geography  of
 areas served after a period of training.

 Ability  to understand, remember, and carry out oral and  written
 directions.

 Ability  to  organize clerical work and develop appropriate  work
 methods.

 Ability  to  load, unload, drive, and service a  light  truck  or
 other  motor  vehicle  to  adhere to  regulations  of  state  and
 department pertaining to use of state owned vehicles.

 Ability to work effectively with associates.

 Ability to prepare simple reports of pickups and deliveries.

 Ability  to  utilize  various types of electronic  and/or  manual
 recording and information systems used by the agency, office,  or
 related units.

 Ability  to  read, write, speak, understand, and  communicate  in
 English  sufficiently  to perform the duties  of  this  position.
 American  Sign  Language or Braille may  also  be  considered  as
 acceptable forms of communication.
