AUDIT ACCOUNT CLERK (TYPING)
DEFINITION
Under direction of a Principal Audit Account Clerk (Typing),
Senior Audit Account Clerk (Typing), or other supervisory officer
in a state department, institution, or agency, does routine
clerical work relating to the review, verification, and
preparation of financial records; does other related duties as
required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Reviews and checks financial documents/reports for mathematical
accuracy, completeness, and propriety such as invoices, vouchers,
receipts, requisitions, benefit claims reports from field
personnel, and miscellaneous statements, reports and
certificates.
May review and check figures to establish liability for taxes,
contributions, fees, penalties, and interest.
Keeps records of cash receipts and disbursements including petty
cash.
Prepares journal entries.
Types financial and other reports, correspondence, memoranda,
charts, forms, tabulations, records, and other documents from
rough copy.
May use varied types of common office machines in temporary
assignments where skill and speed are not primary requirements
and special training is not necessary.
Gathers material for and helps prepare summaries and reports
based on data, information, and records maintained.
Maintains records and files.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by the
agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather
than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties
of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of business office equipment, procedures, and routines.
Knowledge of common books of accounts and of procedures used in
keeping financial records and in checking financial documents.
Ability to make arithmetic calculations quickly/accurately by
hand and by use of calculating machines.
Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written
directions.
Ability to read and understand prescribed procedures quickly from
oral and written explanations and from demonstrations.
Ability to make financial entries accurately and to check
financial records prepared by others for accuracy, completeness,
and propriety.
Ability to do typing from rough copy.
Ability to use varied common office machines including
calculating machines in temporary assignments where skill and
speed are not a primary requirement and special training is not
necessary.
Ability to compile materials for use in reports and summaries.
Ability to help maintain records and files.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or
related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in
English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.
American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as
acceptable forms of communication.
