REPAIRER, MECHANICAL
DEFINITION
Under the direction of a Crew Supervisor, Mechanics or other
supervisory officer in the Department of Transportation, overhauls and
repairs snow plows, snow plow accessories, and those portions of trucks
to which plows are attached; does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Repairs, overhauls and paints snow plows, and attachments and
installs such equipment.
Affixes plows to trucks and does general repair work on the parts
of trucks connected with snow plows.
Repairs, adjusts and installs manual and electric operated
hydraulic pumps and cylinders.
Loads and unloads snow plows and parts for shipment.
Operates yard crane.
Operates a drill press and a power saw machine.
Uses oxygen/acetylene cutting equipment.
Maintains basic records of time spent, materials used, and work
completed.
May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in the repair and maintenance of
mechanical equipment.
LICENSE:
Appointee must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License
(CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle
being operated.
NOTE: Appointees in the Department of Transportation will be required
to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and applicable
endorsement(s) within six (6) months of appointment. The inability of a
Department of Transportation employee to attain a CDL and necessary
endorsements within six (6) months of hire shall constitute grounds for
removal.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the equipment, tools, materials and procedures
used in repairing, adjusting and maintaining mechanical equipment,
including snow plows, and the portions of trucks connected with snow
plows.
Ability to plan and carry out the work involved in
dismantling, assembling, overhauling, repairing, and adjusting snow
plows, and those portions of trucks connected with snow plows.
Ability to operate and maintain yard crane.
Ability to repair and adjust hydrulic pumps and rams and to
operate a drill press, a power saw, and oxygen/acetyliene cutting
equipment.
Ability to maintain basic records of time spent, materials
used, and work completed.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or
related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in
English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American
Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of
communication.
