EDUCATION: Successful completion of a training program in marine mechanics at a recognized vocational or technical school, resulting in certification to service and repair marine engines. Marine mechanics training programs completed in the

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of gasoline and diesel marine engines and related marine equipment.
NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute one (1) additional year of experience as indicated above.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION: Appointees must possess a valid Motor Boat Operator's license issued by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission AND a valid Boating Safety Certificate issued by the New Jersey State Police. Please upload a copy of your license and certificate with your application.
NOTE: An Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels License or a Master's License issued by the United States Coast
Guard, currently valid for the type and size vessel being operated, may be substituted for the Boating Safety Certificate. If you are substituting an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels License or a Master's License for the Boating Safety Certificate, please upload a copy of your license with your application. Failure to do so will result in ineligibility.
Appointees must possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey. Please upload a copy of your license with your application.
NOTE: The responsibility for ensuring that employees possess the required license, commensurate with the class and
type of vehicles and vessels they operate, rests with the appointing authority.
Appointees are required to possess a Marine Mechanic certification appropriate to the level of engine repair.
Appointees must obtain a Marine Travel Lift Training Certification within one (1) year of appointment.
Appointees responsible for the repair and/or servicing of vessel air conditioning systems are required to possess and maintain certification for the installation and recovery of refrigerant, commensurate with the type of equipment being serviced.
Appointees may be required to successfully complete retraining and obtain certification in the service and repair of marine motors provided by the appropriate marine engine manufacturers as determined by the appointing authority.
