Job description for Deputy Attorney General 4 (Unclassified) (#23-82):
January 30, 2023 NOTICE OF JOB VACANCY #23-82 Opportunities currently exist in the unclassified service with the Department of Law & Public Safety, Division of Law, for applicants who meet the requirements specified below: TITLE: Deputy Attorney General 4 SALARY*: $87,578.62 to $124,980.46 LOCATION: Division of Law Litigation Practice Group State Police, Employment and Corrections Section 25 Market Street, Trenton, NJ 08625 NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE:?Eight (8) The Division of Law is seeking experienced litigators with some background in employment law being preferred but not required, to join the State Police, Employment and Corrections (?SPEC?) section. SPEC deputies? practice in the U.S. District Court, Third Circuit Court of Appeals, N.J. Superior Court, N.J. Appellate Division, OAL, Government Records Council and the EEOC. In response to an increase in need for representation, SPEC is increasing the number of employment attorneys in the section. The Division of Law is also seeking attorneys with excellent writing skills and experience in writing summary judgment and appellate briefs. These are new positions. SPEC provides primary representation to the N.J. State Police, Department of Corrections, Parole Board, and the Juvenile Justice Commission, and provides employment litigation services for all State entities. Individual and class action civil rights claims include matters such as excessive force, fatal shootings, wrongful arrest, conditions of confinement, religious, medical and legal access and ADA violations. Deputies hone their written advocacy skills through a significant appellate practice, with opportunities to argue in the Appellate Division. Trial skills are sharpened in defense of employment claims brought against State agencies, with opportunities to try cases in State and Federal court. DUTIES: The Deputy Attorneys General work under the supervision of the Assistant Attorneys General in the Litigation Practice Group, and the Section Chief of the SPEC Section, to provide counsel and representation to the Section's clients; assists with planning and managing the supervision and operations of the Section; assigns matters and supervise Deputy Attorneys General in the Section; litigates and supervises litigation, as needed; evaluates the performance of assigned Deputy Attorneys General; conducts case file reviews; and performs other duties, as required. REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor. Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey is required. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience as a practicing attorney. LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
