VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT The Department of Health received a Civil Service Commission decision on August 26,2020 approving interim appointments for Unclassified Service positions within the Department of Health for an interim Public Health Recovery Division, Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity Enhancing Detection. This interim division is currently established and is expected to remain operational until December 30, 2025. State Street, 2nd Floor Trenton, NJ 08625 Scope of Eligibility/Open to: GENERAL DESCRIPTION Under direction of the Communicable Disease Service (CDS), serves as senior scientist, who will be responsible for designing and overseeing routine and specialized scientific investigations and surveillance on sporadic and outbreaks of communicable diseases including COVID-19. Research includes epidemiologic, demographic, healthcare and local public health. Additionally, collecting and analyzing data on disease susceptibility, transmission, severity, risk factors, and outcomes. Research spans existing reportable communicable diseases as well as novel and emerging pathogens such as COVID-19. Scientific research and investigation findings will expand the knowledge of communicable diseases identification, spread, control and prevention and can be used to create new guidelines and recommendations that influence public health policy making in New Jersey. Lead a team of Research Scientists, Nursing Consultant, and Health Data Specialists in the Regional Epidemiology Program and the COVID-19 Local Response Team. Reviews, modifies, approves, or disapproves scientific and epidemiologic studies and ensure compliance with appropriate research and surveillance methodology and statistical techniques. Serves as Primary Investigator (Pl) for research studies and coordinates Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions. Manages high level technical projects and reports results to designated officials for inter- and intra-agency response. REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSES) EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position. EXPERIENCE: Three (4) years of full-time experience in a field appropriate to the position. NOTE: A Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the position may be substituted for two (2) years of experience indicated above. LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a valid driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essentials duties of the position.
