ARCHITECT

DEFINITION

Under direction, designs and passes upon designs of buildings; does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

From rough sketches, verbal information, and field observations, designs and lays out plans, elevations, and sections for buildings, developing them from sketch form to working drawings.

Develops complete details of various parts of the buildings to help the draftsman, estimators, inspectors, and contractors.

Handles relations and negotiations.

Prepares drawings and specifications.

Furnishes professional advice in connection with architectural problems or policies.

Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

REQUIREMENTS :

LICENSE :

Possession of a valid license as an Architect issued by the New Jersey State Board of Architects.

LICENSE

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in NJ only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

EXPERIENCE :

Two (2) years of experience in the design of large and varied types of buildings and the preparation of architectural plans, drawings, and specifications.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the science and art of architecture.

Knowledge of the principles and procedures to be observed in determining the design of buildings of varied types.

Knowledge of the technological developments in the field of architecture relating to efficient and economical types of buildings.

Knowledge of the means of obtaining needed information from superintendents and their assistants in order to determine how architectural principles can be applied so as to serve their needs.

Knowledge of the preparation of detailed drawings for the information of draftsman, estimators, inspectors, and contractors.

Knowledge of architectural equipment, materials, and supplies, and their purchase, storage, and use, and of the establishment and maintenance of needed records and files.

Ability to design varied types of buildings from rough sketches, verbal information and field observations so as to assure compliance with architectural principles and produce types of structures that make for safe, economical, and efficient operation.

Ability to prepare and supervise the preparation of detailed plans, drawings, and specifications from the designs.

Ability to prepare detailed drawings for the information and use of estimators, inspectors, and contractors.

Ability to work harmoniously with associates, superintendents, and their assistants, and others concerned with the design and construction of buildings.

Ability to properly use architectural equipment, materials, and supplies.

Ability to establish and maintain needed records

Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
