Job Specification

DATA PROCESSING COORDINATOR

DEFINITION:

Under direction, provides technical consultation advice to information technology staff; supervises data processing operations and staff; does other related duties.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Plans and organizes the information technology program for the agency or jurisdiction.

Evaluates existing functions to determine adaptability to an information technology system.

Analyzes operational problems and takes corrective measures.

Supervises conversion and post-conversion evaluations to determine effectiveness and conformity to specifications.

Consults with system users to define their needs.

Prepares request for needed funds.

Prepares and supervises the preparation of schedules for the installation and/or conversion of information technology systems.

Evaluates the efficiency of existing information technology systems; reviews and approves recommendations for new and expanded functions.

Supervises the planning, research and evaluation of information technology programs.

Determines utilization of available funds, equipment, materials and supplies.

Provides assignments and instruction to staff and supervises performance.

Keeps current with developments in information technology.

Prepares reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Maintains records and files.

Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

REQUIREMENTS:

NOTE: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

Six (6) years of professional experience in writing of computer programs, designing and implementing information technology systems, operating a computer and related peripheral equipment, or in related information technology processing and control work.

OR

Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.

NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.

LICENSE:

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position. 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the factors involved in the planning and implementation of information technology systems.

Knowledge of the methods used to plan and conduct studies and evaluations.

Knowledge of the capabilities and applications of information technology systems.

Ability to plan and organize an information technology program.

Ability to evaluate existing functions to determine adaptability to an information technology program.

Ability to supervise conversion and post-conversion evaluations to determine effectiveness and conformity to specifications.

Ability to prepare schedules for the installation of and/or conversion of information technology systems.

Ability to evaluate the efficiency of existing information technology systems.

Ability to provide assignments and instructions to staff and supervise their performance.

Ability to analyze operational problems and develop solutions.

Ability to maintain records and files.

Ability to prepare cost estimates.

Ability to prepare containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Ability to maintain records and files.

Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
