MICROFILM SYSTEMS SUPERVISOR
DEFINITION
Under direction, supervises a large group of employees and performs
the work involved in preparing records of varied types for the
microfilming processes and photographing them on microfilm and
inspecting, reprinting, and reproducing on paper; does other related
duties.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Supervises and does the work involved in filming, processing, density
reading, contact printing, editing and splicing, and jacketing.
Supervises the microfilm system and organizes the work flow and work
methods.
Receives, review, arranges and prepares records for microfilming.
Operates duplicating and microfilming equipment; checks and makes
minor adjustments to equipment.
Uses film reader to check film for accuracy.
Refilms defective documents and splices retakes in proper order.
Assists the public to use the microfilmed materials.
Keep records of projects in the department.
Answers inquiries concerning microfilming.
Provides maximum quality control and processing standards set by the
Federal Bureau of Standards.
Orders and supervises ordering of equipment and supplies.
Instructs new employees in the use of microfilm equipment.
Maintains records and files.
Prepares reports.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) years of experience in work involved in the use,
adjustment and minor maintenance of microfilm equipment,
one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid
in NJ only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee
mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the operation and adjustment of microfilm camera,
including variation and adjustment of light intensities for colors.
Knowledge of symptoms of machine failure resulting in film spoilage
and the repetition of errors.
Knowledge of photographic qualities of papers used in original
documents and the adjustments of exposure that may be required.
Knowledge of reviewing, arranging, and preparing varied types of
records and documents for microfilming processes.
Ability to handle and supervise varied types of microfilming.
Ability to use a film reader and inspect and check the accuracy of
filmed materials.
Ability to splice retakes and place them in order.
Ability to file materials.
Ability to provide assignments and instructions to staff.
Ability to maintain continuing records of varied microfilm projects.
Ability to research and provide assistance to callers using
microfilmed materials available in Department files.
Ability to prepare reports.
Ability to maintain records and files.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording
and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English
sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign
Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of
communication.
