Job Specification

 PRINCIPAL PLANNING AIDE

 DEFINITION:

 Under  direction,  performs  highly  responsible  subprofessional
 field  and office planning work involved in preparing and  making
 surveys,   collecting  and  compiling  data,  and  assisting   in
 transposing statistical data into visual forms, and/or has charge
 of a small planning aide unit; does related work as required.

 NOTE: The definition and examples of work for this title are for
 illustrative  purposes only.  A particular  position  using  this
 title   may   not  perform  all  duties  listed   in   this   job
 specification.  Conversely, all duties performed on the  job  may
 not be listed.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 Assists  by  performing tasks involved in preparing  graphic  and
 written  presentations  of  solutions  developed  for  particular
 planning problems.

 Assists  by  performing tasks involved in transposing statistical
 data into forms suitable for the preparation of maps and charts.

 Assists  by  performing  involved  in  informing  subdividers  on
 procedures  and review of subdivision plans, informing applicants
 for  zoning variances, compiling data for land acquisition costs,
 collecting data for zoning maps, collecting information  on  land
 use,  calculating  acreage  for open  land  surveys,  and  making
 studies of public facilities.

 Gives assignments and instruction to assigned planning aides.

 Prepares reports.

 Keeps essential records.

 Will  be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or  manual  recording and information  systems  used  by  the
 agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

      EXPERIENCE:

       Two  (2) years of experience in performing field and office
 tasks   involved  in  preparing  and  making  planning   surveys,
 collecting  and compiling data, and transposing statistical  data
 into visual form.

      NOTE: Satisfactory completion of thirty (30) semester  hour
 credits  in  planning  course work at an  accredited  college  or
 university  may  be  substituted for each year  of  the  required
 experience.

      LICENSE:

 Appointees will be required to posses a driver's license valid in
 New  Jersey  only  if  the operation of a  vehicle,  rather  than
 employee  mobility, is necessary to perform the essential  duties
 of the position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge of methods and techniques used in planning work on  the
 subprofessional level.

 Ability  to  organize  assigned work and develop  effective  work
 methods.

 Ability to give suitable assignments and instructions to assigned
 planning aides.

 Ability to prepare suitable reports.

 Ability to keep necessary records.

 Ability  to  learn to utilize various types of electronic  and/or
 manual  recording  and information systems used  by  the  agency,
 office, or  related units.

 Ability  to  read,  write, speak, understand, or  communicate  in
 English  sufficiently  to perform the duties  of  this  position.
 American   Sign  Language or Braille may also  be  considered  
 as acceptable forms of  communication.
