Job Specification

 STOREKEEPER

 DEFINITION:
 
 Under direction, has charge of and coordinates the receiving, 
 storing, inventorying, and issuing supplies, parts, and equipment; 
 does related work as required.

 NOTE:  The definition and examples of work for this title are for
 illustrative purposes only.  A particular position using this title

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 Checks the delivery sheets when shipments are received to see that 
 the specified stores are delivered and that they are in good condition.

 Unpacks, weighs, counts, and measurers the contents of the shipments
 to see that the delivered stores conform with the quantity and quality 
 specified as delivered.

 Records the kind and quantity of the stores reviewed.

 Places supplies in appropriate bins, shelves, and other receptacles 
 and areas to ensure orderliness and safety.

 Safeguards stores against fire, theft and damage.

 Issues equipment, materials, and supplies when given requisitions
 or when other types of proper authorization are received.

 Makes periodic physical inventories of the kind and quantity 
 of stores on hand.

 Keeps the storeroom clean and orderly.

 Prepares records for stores received and establishes and
 maintains other storeroom records and files.

 Prepares requisitions for supplies, materials, and equipment.

 Will  be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or manual recording and computerized information systems 
 used by the agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

 EXPERIENCE:

 Two (2) years of experience in the obtaining, recording, storing, 
 safeguarding, and issuing of varied types of equipment, materials, 
 and supplies.

 LICENSE:

 Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid
 in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than
 employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties 
 of the  position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
 
 Knowledge of problems, procedures, and methods involved in
 checking the delivery sheets of incoming shipments to see that
 the specified goods are delivered and that they are in good
 condition.

 Knowledge of unpacking, weighing, counting, and measuring
 the contents of the shipments to see that the delivered stores
 conform with the quantity and quality specified as delivered.

 Knowledge of recording the kind and quantity of the received
 stores.

 Knowledge of placing the stock in appropriate bins, shelves, and
 other receptacles and areas to ensure orderliness and safety.

 Knowledge of safeguarding stores against fire, theft, and damage.

 Knowledge of issuing stores when given requisitions or when other
 types of proper authorization are received.

 Knowledge of making periodic physical inventories of the kind and
 quantity of stores on hand, and in keeping the storeroom clean
 and orderly.

 Knowledge of the methods used in obtaining, storing, safeguarding,
 distributing, and supervising the proper use of equipment, materials, 
 and supplies.

 Ability to analyze storekeeping problems, organize assigned work,
 and develop effective work methods.
 
 Ability to the check delivery sheets of incoming shipments to see 
 that the specified stores are delivered and that they are in good 
 condition.

 Ability to the unpack, weigh, count, and measure contents of
 shipments to see that the delivered stores conform with the 
 quantity and quality specified as delivered.  Ability to record
 the kind and quantity of the received stores.

 Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports.

 Ability to establish and maintain essential records and files.

 Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
 manual recording and information systems used by the
 agency, office, or related units.

 Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate
 in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
 American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered
 as acceptable forms of  communication.
