Job Specification

 SUPERVISOR CENTRAL MAILING ROOM

 DEFINITION:

 Under direction, has charge of and supervises the work of
 a central mailing unit; does other related duties as required.

 NOTE: The  examples of work for this title are for illustrative

 all duties performed on the job may not be listed.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 Formulates the work program and develops work procedures  of  the
 mailing unit.

 Organizes assigned work.

 Supervises  and gives assignments and instructions  to  employees
 engaged  in  collecting,  sorting, distributing,  recording,  and
 stamping incoming and outgoing letters and packages.

 Determines  particular class of mail that  letters  and  packages
 would be sent.

 Supervises the issuing of stamps to various departments.

 Supervises registered and insured letters and packages.

 Makes a periodic inventory of cash, stamps, post cards, and units
 remaining on the postage metering machines.

 Supervises   periodic   bills  for  postage   owed   by   various
 departments.

 Supervises preparation of reports.

 Prepares and maintains records and files.

 Will  be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or manual recording and information systems used by 
 the agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

      EXPERIENCE:

      Two  (2)  years of experience in work involving the handling
 of mail including the related clerical work.

      LICENSE:

      Appointees will  be required to possess a driver's license
 valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather
 than  employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential 
 duties of the position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge  of problems involved in developing a work program  and
 working procedures for the mailing unit taking into consideration
 the  rules  and  regulations of the United States Postal  Service
 concerning the handling of mail.

 Knowledge  of  methods and prodedures used in giving  assignments
 and instructions, and in supervising work of others.

 Knowledge  of  the establishment and maintenance of  records  and
 files.

 Ability  to analyze varied problems involved in the mailing  unit
 and to develop effective work procedures.

 Ability to give assignments and instructions.

 Ability to provide needed advice and assistance in difficult  
 and unusual circumstances.

 Ability to ensure that desired objectives are achieved.

 Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
 recording and information systems used by the agency, office,  
 or related units.

 Ability  to  read, write, speak, understand, and  communicate
 in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.
 American  Sign  Language or Braille may  also be considered
 as acceptable forms of  communication.
