SENIOR LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT
DEFINITION
Under direction, prepares site plans, landscape plans,
cost estimates, and specifications for park and recreational
facilities, public beautification projects, and public buildings;
supervises the installation and construction of such projects;
takes the lead over assigned personnel; does related work
as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
When work program and procedures have been approved,
gives assignments and instructions to subordinate employees
and supervises the performance of their work.
Prepares and processes applications for federal and state
financial grant programs relating to public beautification
programs.
Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of grading plans
and cross sections to be used in developing parks and
recreational facilities.
Designs and drafts plans to be used in the planting of grass,
vines, shrubs, and trees in parks and recreation areas.
Prepares plant material lists, sizes, methods of handling,
specifications, and cost estimates.
Designs architectural details for various projects.
Prepares and reviews designs for the beautification of
roadway areas.
Reviews landscape plans for garden apartments, industrial
plants, and commercial buildings, and makes recommendations
thereon.
Prepares pencil or crayon sketches.
Acts as a technical advisor to government agencies on matters
pertaining to landscape maintenance and tree care.
Prepares as-built plans and estimates of quantities for final
payment.
Prepares reports of landscape matters containing findings,
conclusions, and recommendations.
May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by
the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with
a Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or
Landscape Design.
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of experience in landscape design.
NOTE: A Master's degree in a related field may be
substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
LICENSE:
Appointees must possess a license as a Landscape Architect
issued by the New Jersey State Board of Architects.
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather
than employee mobility, is necessary to perform in essential
duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of landscape, architecture, and engineering principles,
methods, and ideas on which park and recreational facilities are
planned, designed, and constructed.
Knowledge of sources of information from which the newest
innovations and methods of these professions may be obtained.
Knowledge of plant materials, hardware, and drainage and
erosion control methods to be used on all related jobs.
Knowledge of architectural and engineering details.
Ability to analyze problems involved in landscape architectural
requirements as they relate to specific projects.
Ability to organize assigned landscape architectural work and
develop appropriate work procedures.
Ability to give appropriate assignments, instructions, and
supervision to assigned employees.
Ability to design and develop landscape plans for road, park,
and recreation including architectural details.
Ability to care for and maintain instruments, materials, and
supplies.
Ability to keep detailed records of all landscape construction
projects.
Ability to prepare reports of landscape architecture projects
containing findings, conclusions and recommendations.
Ability to maintain records and files.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the
agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in
English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered
as acceptable forms of communication.
