Job Specification

 MANAGER GOLF FACILITIES

 DEFINITION:

 Under direction, is responsible for daily management of one 
 or more regulation golf courses and its facilities; directs the
 operations which are consistent with an overall management
 program that requires sufficient revenue generation; does 
 other related duties as required.

 NOTE: The examples of work for this title are for illustrative
 purposes only.  A particular position using this title may not

 all duties performed on the job may not be listed.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK:

 May supervise golf center staff and have responsibility for
 coordinating necessary training.

 Maximizes efficiency of operations for one or more public 
 golf course(s) by creating of new ways to generate
 additional revenues within the existing system.

 Plans, designs, and implements golf related programs.

 May develop revenue reporting procedure guidelines and 
 ensures that these are followed by responsible staff.

 Measures effectiveness and alters programs if necessary.

 Assigns duties and trains subordinates in operation of one 
 or more golf course facilities.

 May have responsibility for the development of clinics,
 instructions and tournaments and overseeing preparation 
 of the course(s) for the appropriate event.

 May assist in establishment of fees and rate schedules.

 Collects fees and remits to proper source.

 May oversee the operation of a luncheonette and/or golf 
 course shop.

 Creates a purchasing plan to match product demand and 
 volume of sales.

 May assist in preparation of an annual budget.

 When the budget is approved, is responsible for maintaining 
 a proper relationship between revenues and expenditures.

 May advise when consulted on needed construction, 
 reconstruction, and maintenance of the golf course or 
 its facilities.

 May act as liaison with other departments within the park 
 system to disperse information and ensure continuity with 
 applicable department's needs.

 Oversees the rental of hand and powered carts and their 
 maintenance.

 Maintains essential records, files, and account ledgers.

 Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or manual recording and information systems used by 
 the agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

 EXPERIENCE:

 Three (3) years of experience in the management, operation,
 and supervision of a revenue producing facility or facilities at 
 a recreational or sport or entertainment center, one (1) year of 
 which includes experience at a revenue-generating golf facility.   

 LICENSE:

 Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid 
 in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than 
 employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties
 of the position.

 NOTE:  Appointees may be required to become certified through
 completion of the PGA Professional Golf Management Program
 if deemed necessary by the Appointing Authority.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge of problems involved in operation and management 
 of a revenue generating, regulation golf course and attendant
 facilities.

 Knowledge of rules, regulations, practices, and procedures in
 golf play.

 Knowledge of business administration practices relating to
 operation of a public recreation facility.

 Knowledge of managerial principles and techniques.  

 Knowledge of developing and implementing programs intended
 to maximize revenue generation as a result of efficient usage of 
 a recreation facility.

 Knowledge of procedures used in the purchase, maintenance, 
 and safeguarding of supplies and equipment.

 Knowledge of methods and procedures needed for establishing 
 and maintaining personnel, finances, equipment, and other 
 records and files.

 Ability to analyze problems of assigned work and develop
 effective work methods.

 Ability to give assignments to subordinates and provide them 
 with needed advice and assistance when difficult problems 
 arise, and to supervise and work closely to see that proper 
 procedures are followed.

 Ability to demonstrate, teach, and lead group activities.

 Ability to recognize county recreational needs as related to
 golf.

 Ability to work harmoniously with employees and to maintain
 harmonious relationships with the public.

 Ability to oversee activities involving the repair, selling or 
 rental of golf equipment.   

 Ability to utilize available funds and equipment efficiently 
 in accord with established management goals, monitoring 
 a proper relationship between revenues and expenditures.

 Ability to operate a revenue generating recreation facility 
 in accord with business practices.

 Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative
 reports and financial statements.

 Ability to maintain essential records and files.

 Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
 recording and information systems used by the agency, 
 office, or related units.

 Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate 
 in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.
 American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered 
 as acceptable forms of communication.
