SENIOR EMPLOYEE BENEFITS CLERK
DEFINITION:
Under direction, performs responsible clerical work of moderate
complexity and/or takes the lead over other employees involved in
the processing of enrollments, adjustments, terminations and
additions for employee insurance, hospitalization, benefits and
pension plans; does other related work.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Performs or takes the lead over other employees involved in the
completion and processing of various forms required for
enrollments, adjustments, terminations and additions to employee
insurance, benefit and pension plans, which may include those
required for union dues, garnishments and other deductions from
pay.
Reviews, check, verify and edit reports, printouts, applications
and other documents for accuracy.
Gathers and compiles needed information.
Researches and answers inquiries and resolves complaints.
Provides information regarding employee benefits and eligibility
requirements.
Assists applicants in filling out required forms.
Processes Social Security and/or disability applications
as needed.
Prepares quarterly reports and supplementary reports of
contributions, deductions, arrearages and surpluses.
Prepares or assists in the preparation of brochures, bulletins
and pamphlets relative to employee benefit programs, insurance
and pension plans.
Maintains records of various accounts and disbursements.
Calculates payroll deductions, makes extensions and calculates
percentages.
Occasionally operates varied types of office machinery and
equipment.
May take the lead over other employees by providing advice and
guidance in completion of work assignments.
Maintains records and files.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by the
agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of clerical experience in work involving the
processing and review of enrollments, adjustments, terminations
and additions to employee benefit programs, insurance programs or
pension plans.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than
employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of
the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of office methods, practices and equipment.
Knowledge of basic arithmetic including the calculation of
percentages.
Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculations including
percentages.
Ability to understand, remember and execute written and oral
directions and instructions.
Ability to provide guidance and direction in the execution of
routine office tasks.
Ability to maintain records and files.
Ability to complete, review and verify forms and documents.
Ability to gather and compile information and data.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
recording and information systems used by the agency, office,
or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in
English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.
American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered
as acceptable forms of communication.
