AUDIO VISUAL SPECIALIST
DEFINITION:
Under direction, plans and organizes audio visual productions
and operates a variety of audio visual equipment including, but
not limited to, video tape recorders, television and movie
cameras; may coordinate various activities involved with stage
production; does related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
May plan and organizes audio visual productions by writing
production scripts and plans.
Supervises production personnel by assigning work
to be performed.
Operates a variety of audio visual equipment used in the work
such as editing machines, video tape recorders, television and
movie cameras, waveform monitors, processing amplifiers,
audio recorders, sound mixers and slide, film strip and motion
picture projectors.
Orders necessary equipment and supplies.
Stores, safeguards, and makes minor repairs and
adjustments to equipment used.
Maintains needed records and files.
Provides technical advice on the use of audio visual equipment.
Prepares and submits budgetary requests as needed.
May participate in various activities involved in the setting
of scenery and props for stage productions.
May coordinate staffing of volunteers and employees for
stage productions.
Maintains inventory of theater and stage supplies.
May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by
the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Graduation from a two (2) year course at an accredited
college or university with a major course of study in
telecommunications, communication arts or a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in the production of audio visual
presentations which shall have included the operation of a
variety of audio visual equipment such as television and
motion picture cameras, video tape recorders and sound
equipment.
SUBSTITUTION:
Applicants who do not possess the required education may
substitute the above experience on a year for year basis.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than
employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties
of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the procedures and methods used in the planning
and organizing of audio visual productions.
Knowledge of the procedures used in operating audio and video
equipment.
Knowledge of the methods of care, cutting, splicing, mixing
and making sound and silent films and video tapes.
Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work
methods.
Ability to plan and supervise the production of audio visual
presentations.
Ability to operate a variety of audio visual equipment
including televisions and motion picture cameras, video
tape recorders, and sound equipment.
Ability to give suitable assignments and instructions to
individuals and groups.
Ability to store, safeguard, and make minor repairs and
adjustments to the equipment used.
Ability to provide technical assistance on the use of audio
visual equipment.
Ability to coordinate various activities involved with stage
productions.
Ability to prepare budgetary reports.
Ability to maintain a working inventory.
Ability to maintain needed records of files.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the
agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate
in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered
as acceptable forms of communication.
