GENERAL SUPERVISOR, TRADES

 

DEFINITION


 Under  direction, supervises trades, trade supervisors, and other
 employees involved in the installation, maintenance, repair,  and
 construction  of the physical facilities of a building/structure;
 does other related duties as required.

 NOTE: The  examples of work for this title are for illustrative

EXAMPLES OF WORK:


 Develops  and  organizes an effective work  program  to  properly
 assist  in  the  overall  plan to more  effectively  utilize  the
 facilities.

 Develops and maintains an effective work schedule for the  varied
 functions  of the section for effective utilization of  available
 funds, personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies.

 Supervises  trade  supervisors and  other  employees  engaged  in
 assigned work.

 Makes investigations of complaints and takes proper action to see
 that repairs are made with a minimum of delay.

 Inspects  and  checks work in progress to see that proper  safety
 precautions  are taken, that proper procedures are followed,  and
 that  the  work does not interfere with the operations  of  other
 departments.

 May prepare requisitions/specifications.

 Prepares reports and recommendations.

 Obtains,  stores,  safeguards,  and  supervises  use  of   needed
 equipment, materials, and supplies.

 Maintains records and files.

 Will  be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
 and/or  manual  recording and information  systems  used  by  the
 agency, office, or related units.

 REQUIREMENTS:

      EXPERIENCE:

      Five  (5) years of journey-level trades experience including
 one   (1)  year  of  supervisory  experience  in  work  involving
 maintenance and construction of large buildings.

      LICENSE:

      Appointees  will  be required to possess a driver's  license
 valid  in  New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle,  rather
 than  employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties
 of the position.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 Knowledge  of problems and work involved in maintenance,  repair,
 and construction work.

 Knowledge  of  standard  tools,  materials,  methods,  practices,
 occupational hazards, and safety precautions.

 Knowledge    of    the   preparation   of   specifications    for
 materials/equipment.

 Knowledge of methods used in scheduling work in a large facility.

 Ability to organize assigned work.

 Ability   to   give  assignments/instructions   to   groups   and
 individuals.

 Ability to prepare reports.

 Ability to maintain records and files.

 Ability  to  utilize  various types of electronic  and/or  manual
 recording and information systems used by the agency, office,  or
 related units.

 Ability  to  read, write, speak, understand, and  communicate  in
 English   sufficiently  to  perform  duties  of  this   position.
 American  Sign  Language or Braille may  also  be  considered  as
 acceptable forms of  communication.
