ASSISTANT NUTRITION PROGRAM COORDINATOR,
WOMEN, INFANTS, AND CHILDREN'S PROGRAM
DEFINITION
Under direction, assists in planning, organizing, directing,
and supervising the operation of a special supplemental
food program with a minimum caseload of 10,000 participants
per month of women, infants, and children (WIC), and assists
in organizing and implementing the program to provide
supplemental food, nutrition education, and access to health
care for women, infants, and children; does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Assigns and checks the work of subordinates by distributing
work, and reviewing, revising, and approving end result to
ensure proper performance and to coordinate workflow to
achieve program
aims and goals.
Gathers information for the planning, organization, evaluation,
and implementation of the program through personnel
contacts with other agencies and the review of reports, studies,
texts, periodicals, journals, laws, rules, and regulations.
Prepares reports using standard formats and procedures
containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations
concerning program operation, community needs, projected
or actual accomplishments, and changes in workflow,
methods, and procedures.
Explains program purpose and operation to staff, participants,
other health field professionals, and the public orally and/or
in writing to engender or facilitate understanding, program
participation, and development of referral and/or other
ancillary services.
Supervises the screening of WIC applicants in accord with
program regulations to ensure compliance.
Supervises and/or coordinates issuance and use of food
vouchers to qualified applicants so they may supplement
nutritionally deficient diets.
Assists in planning and implementing an effective nutrition
education program.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and computerized information systems
used by the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a
Bachelor's degree in the field of nutrition, dietetics, or home
economics.
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience in managing or supervising a
public health, nutritional, and/or health education program.
NOTE: Graduation from an accredited college or university
with a Master's degree in the above-mentioned areas or Public
Health Administration may be substituted for one (1) year of the
above experience.
NOTE: Appointees must possess a current and valid
Certification as a Registered Dietitian issued by the
Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather
than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential
duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of purpose, procedures, and problems encountered
in administration of a specially funded program for target populations.
Knowledge of methods, procedures, and problems involved
in mobilizing resources and facilities to service a target
population.
Knowledge of cultural, social, and economic problems of
low income families as they relate to public health nutrition.
Ability to enlist the interest and cooperation of community
organizations.
Ability to plan work effectively and to communicate and
present ideas effectively.
Ability to speak well in public or at group meetings.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working
relationship with individuals, groups, and other health
professionals.
Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and informative
reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Ability to develop effective work methods, give
suitable assignments and instructions to groups and individuals,
and provide them with advice and assistance when difficult and
unusual problems arise.
Ability to maintain essential records and files.
Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual
recording and information systems used by the agency,
office or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in
English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American
Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable
forms of communication.
