STOREKEEPER 2

DEFINITION:

Under the limited supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, institution, or agency, or a local jurisdiction coordinates the activities of workers engaged in receiving, storing, keeping inventory, and issuing supplies, parts, materials, and equipment; has charge of the operation of a storeroom, serves as team lead; does other related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

May serve as team lead.

Plans and organizes the purchasing, receiving, recording, storing, safeguarding, and issuing of a wide variety of equipment, printed materials and supplies which may include food, clothing, shoes, and uniforms.

Checks delivery sheets to confirm that the correct quantity of items has arrived in good condition.

Oversees the packing of orders for delivery.

Issues parts, equipment, materials and supplies.

Monitors the placement of stock in appropriate bins, shelves, and other receptacles and areas to ensure orderliness and safety; sees that the necessary precautions are taken to safeguard the stores.

Periodically makes physical inventories of stock on hand and prepares recommendations for the purchase of needed items.

Is responsible for proper coding of equipment, and/or inventory forms, for computer input for inventory charge back system.

Ensures that stored equipment is maintained and in operational order.

May be required to deliver supplies or equipment.

Ensures that adequate stock of equipment, materials, and supplies are on hand at all times, and makes the arrangements necessary to handle peak and/or emergency demands.

Ensures that storeroom areas are maintained in clear, neat, orderly, and safe condition at all times.

Ensures appropriate measures are taken to safeguard the health, welfare, custody, and safety of employees and/or inmates, patients, or clients assigned to the stockroom.

Prepares clear, sound, accurate, and informative statistical and other reports of the stockroom containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Will be required to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

REQUIREMENTS:

EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) years of experience in work involving receiving, storing, safeguarding, and recording parts, materials, equipment, and supplies of varied types in an organized storeroom.

LICENSE:

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of large-scale stockroom and storage procedures and methods.

Knowledge of stock record keeping methods and procedures.

Knowledge of modern transportation, shipping, and packing methods.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions and to learn quickly from oral and written explanations and from demonstrations.

Ability to assign and instruct employees of the unit and inmates, patients, or clients and to supervise the performance of their work in accordance with established procedures.

Ability to assist in unpacking, unloading, storing, labeling, and recording incoming stock of varied types and to check the quality and quantity of stock received against orders and specifications.

Ability to see that the bins, racks, and shelves are kept properly filled.

Ability to receive requisitions, see that stock is assembled for filling orders, that proper records are kept thereof, and the requested stock is properly packed for delivery and/or shipment.

Ability to maintain the maintenance of the storeroom areas in a clear, orderly, safe, and sanitary condition.

Ability to take the proper precautions required to safeguard stored equipment, materials, parts, and supplies from theft, loss, damage, and fire.

Ability to do simple clerical work and to prepare statistical and other reports.

Ability to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
