SENIOR IDENTIFICATION OFFICER
DEFINITION
Under direction a supervisory officer at a state department,
institution, or agency, has charge of an identification program
through the use of photography, fingerprints and DNA sample
collection; serves as a member of the institutional Pre-Release
Committee; does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Supervises or administers the Buccal swab sample procedure to obtain
a DNA saliva sample for DNA registration.
Supervises or witnesses the withdrawal of blood for DNA registration.
Serves as a member of the institutional Pre-Release Committee to
facilitate the release of inmates in accordance with laws, regulations
and policies.
Supervises or performs the taking, classifying, and filing of
fingerprints and other descriptive information for patients, inmates,
and employees.
Reviews fingerprints on which no previous record exists; determines
whether all search possibilities have been conducted, and returns
those requiring additional searches.
Supervises or performs the taking, developing, sizing, mounting, and
filing of photographs of patients, inmates, and employees, taken with
digital imaging equipment.
Supervises or performs the taking and mounting of interior and
exterior photography work including engineering projects, accident
scenes, and various public relations releases, where digital imaging
equipment is used.
Participates in the preparation of pictures and printed literature
regarding escaped patients and inmates, and in the dissemination of
this information to the proper authorities.
Furnishes local police departments, FBI, SBI, Selective Service
System, US Immigration, Bureau of Parole, and Bureau of Social
Research with information, records, and identification concerning all
inmates or patients received and released from a state institution.
Interviews newly received inmates and patients to obtain information
concerning their past histories.
Examines records, prepares evidence for testimony in court procedures,
and testifies in court.
Provides information for the identification office budget, and
maintains an accurate account of material needs and disbursements.
Prepares reports and correspondence.
Establishes and maintains identification office records and files.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience in work involving taking, classifying,
and filing fingerprints in an organization using a standard alphanumeric
system.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid
in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee
mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the
position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of DNA sampling (blood and saliva) techniques.
Knowledge of photographic and digital imaging equipment.
Knowledge of the methods used to take, identify by type, and file
fingerprints.
Knowledge of the materials to be filed in an individual's record, and
of the methods used to compile needed data.
Ability to interpret laws, rules and regulations and apply them to
specific situations.
Ability to supervise the taking, developing, sizing, mounting, and
filing of photographs of patients, inmates, employees, accident
scenes, engineering projects, and various public relations releases.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English
sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign
Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of
communication.
