DEFINITION
Under direction of the Supervisor of Educational Program, or
other supervisory official, plans, executes and evaluates lessons
and educational experiences of assigned pupils, class, or
classes; performs these duties exercising independent judgment
and with a comprehensive knowledge of department rules,
regulations, and policies; does related work.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Maintains up-to-date lesson plans, cumulative pupil records, and
evaluative data.
Plans a balanced curriculum, which aims to develop pupils
physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.
Prepares lessons that utilize a wide range of relevant textbooks,
curriculum materials, audiovisual aids, and library resources.
Participates in the development of an educational philosophy,
curriculum, and courses of study.
Provides individualized instruction and remedial techniques when
the needs of the pupils dictate.
Evaluates formally the educational progress and achievement of
each pupil under his/her assignment on an annual basis or more
frequently as needed.
Prepares informal progress notes on each pupil on a monthly basis
or more frequently as useful in the continuous process of pupil
evaluation.
Write individual education plans and/or the education portion of
individual habilitation plans for each pupil under his/her
assignment and implements educational programming as
prescribed for each pupil.
When required, may coordinate recommendations of personnel and
other professional personnel concerning the educational
prescription for each pupil.
Instructs and guides pupils to attain basic objectives of
education programs.
Observes pupils and formally and informally measures their
growth.
Utilizes teaching techniques based on individual differences of
pupils. Guides pupils according to their abilities.
Participates in educational department meetings with the
supervisor of educational programs and coworkers on a regular
basis.
Attends pertinent professional courses, conventions, seminars,
and workshops to maintain the highest level of professional
competence.
Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information systems used
by the agency, office, or related units.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Possession of a valid NJ Standard Teacher's
Certificate or Permanent Endorsement, issued by the Board of
Examiners of the New Jersey Department of Education, authorizing
instruction in subjects areas appropriate to the teaching
assignment, as determined by the head of a particular school or
district.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license
valid in NJ only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than
employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of
the position.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in
English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as
acceptable forms of
communication.
